Since 1998, Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. (Southern) has sponsored an annual National Scholarship Program open to the children of qualified employees of the company. College-bound children of Southern employees who have been with the company on a permanent basis for at least two years are eligible to submit a competitive scholarship application every year for grants ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 per year for post-secondary education at an academic, vocational or technical institution.

Wayne E. Chaplin, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "For the past 16 years, Southern has been privileged to offer a Scholarship Program for the children of our employees. We know the value of a quality education and are proud to play an integral part in their academic careers. As a vital component of Southern’s charitable initiatives, we will continue to give back to our Southern Family and the local communities we serve.”

In a statement about the Scholarship Program, Harvey R. Chaplin, Chairman, added, “More than 300 employee families have benefited from Southern’s Scholarship Program. We encourage all eligible employees to submit an application on behalf their college-bound children. We’re proud to provide this wonderful opportunity to ensure that tomorrow’s future leaders receive the best educational opportunities available.”

According to Mark Krauss, Vice President of Human Resources, the company has committed “in excess of $2 million over the past 16 years toward supporting higher education in the form of direct grants to colleges, universities, vocational and technical colleges across the country.”

Since the launch of the program in 1999, Southern has awarded more than 340 scholarships to eligible employee children for post-secondary education at an academic, vocational or technical institution.
