Steven R. Becker graduated from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York, with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance. Mr. Becker went on to study law and received a J.D. degree from the Boston University School of Law. Before starting his professional career, Mr. Becker received an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
In 1978 Mr. Becker joined Knickerbocker Liquors Corporation as a Sales Manager of the New York distributor's wine division. Subsequently, he was named Assistant General Sales Manager, with responsibility for a 170-person sales force. He was later appointed Assistant to the President, Gil Rosenberg. Mr. Becker was then appointed President of the company's new import division, Beauvignot International, a national wine sales and marketing firm.
Mr. Becker began his career at Southern Wine and Spirits of America in 1985 as Vice President of Finance, serving with Herbert Joseph. In 1993 Mr. Becker-whose father, Isidore Becker, was co-chairman of Shaw-Ross International Importers, a division of Southern Wine and Spirits of America-was appointed First Vice President and Treasurer of Southern Wine and Spirits of America. Of his father, Becker says, "He taught me that you should be able to read a financial statement like a book-you must understand all the plots and subplots."
In his present position, Mr. Becker is responsible for the company's treasury management functions, including all borrowings and financing, bank relationships, cash management, and other finance-related activities. He also oversees mortgages, leases, r
