(Southern)—the nation’s leading wine and spirits distributor with operations in 35 states—announced today the acceptance of the African Leadership Magazine’s 2014 U.S.-Africa Business Leadership Award presented during the 1st Annual U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. The award paid tribute to Southern’s dedication to distribution of indigenous South African wines from the land of the great Nelson Mandela.
Since 1998, Southern Wine & Spirits of America, Inc. (Southern) has sponsored an annual National Scholarship Program open to the children of qualified employees of the company. College-bound children of Southern employees who have been with the company on a permanent basis for at least two years are eligible to submit a competitive scholarship application every year for grants ranging from $1,500 to $2,500 per year for post-secondary education at an academic, vocational or technical institution.

(Southern), the nation’s leading wine and spirits distributor, has committed $30 million to the Step Up For Students Scholarship Program for the 2014-15 school year. Southern’s commitment is the largest single contribution to date in the nonprofit organization’s 12-year history, and will fund more than 5,500 scholarships.
